Is Declan Rice related to Pat Rice? Many have been asking on Google after Arsenal made the West Ham No.41 their top summer target.
Mikel Arteta has earmarked the England international as his priority for the summer transfer window after missing out on Mykhaylo Mudryk to Chelsea, with a deal likely to cost £80m – according to The Times.
After that news broke, many Arsenal fans have been keen to know if the 24-year-old is related to Pat Rice.
So, is Declan Rice related to Pat Rice? Let’s take a look…
Is Declan Rice related to Pat Rice?
Well, to put it simply, no. The West Ham captain is not related to the 73-year-old Arsenal legend.
Rice was born in London back in 1999, with his parents – father Sean Rice and his mother Teresa Rice – not known to have any relation to Pat Rice, who was born in Northern Ireland back in 1949.
The West Ham No.41 does have some Irish heritage, representing the Republic of Ireland side at Under-16, Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level thanks to his grandparents, who originate from Cork.

Rice – who worked as Assistant Manager to Arsene Wenger at Arsenal – was born in Belfast and won 49 caps for Northern Ireland during his playing career.
So, despite the Irish connection, there is no known relation between Declan Rice and Pat Rice.
That will come as unwelcome news for Arsenal fans who hoped that Pat could potentially pull some strings to ensure the England international ends up at the Emirates Stadium, as Chelsea are also in the mix.
The Times believe Arsenal are confident about signing the West Ham talisman at the end of the season, although the Blues – who pipped them to Mudryk – and Manchester United are set to be involved in a bidding war.
West Ham are expected to sell Rice as his contract expires in 2024 – therefore, the upcoming summer represents their last chance to receive a significant fee, as the midfielder has no intention of signing fresh terms.
Be sure to keep an eye on this saga, as it looks set to dominate the headlines.
