Paul Merson has written that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp may unleash Fabio Carvalho v Manchester United.

The 19-year-old was Liverpool’s first signing of what’s been a decent window for the Reds, joining for £7.7 million.

Liverpool won’t top the £85 million deal to sign Darwin Nunez this summer but, with the Uruguay international suspended for the visit to Manchester United on Monday, Klopp might have a problem.

That’s because Diogo Jota is injured and Roberto Firmino sat out the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace earlier this week.

In other words, Liverpool might not have a traditional number nine to spearhead the attack at Old Trafford next week.

And Merson, speaking to Sportskeeda, believes that the German manager could potentially deploy the former Fulham prodigy – signed as a playmaker – through the middle against Manchester United.

He said: “With Roberto Firmino injured and Darwin Nunez suspended, they have no one to come off the bench and make an impact as a substitute. I have no clue who is going to play up front with Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah – maybe young Fabio Carvalho will get thrown into the fray at Old Trafford?”

Fabio Carvalho v Manchester United?

The good news for Liverpool is that Firmino is expected to be available.

On Wednesday, Goal reported that the Brazil international will be ready to face Manchester United in what is a massive development.

Remember, Firmino scored twice as Klopp’s side won 4-2 away to the Red Devils back in May of 2021.

So having someone this experienced available could be enormous and spare Carvalho from being ‘thrown into the fray’, as Merson put it.
