Everton could now make a move to sign Lucas Moura from Tottenham following a development on Friday evening.
What’s the story?
Well, it was UOL in Brazil who claimed that the Toffees are interested in signing the South American from Spurs.
However, the situation had somewhat fizzled out as Lucas – who Tottenham paid £25m for – struggled with a tendon injury, which has limited him to just eight appearances in the Premier League this season.
Now, some momentum in this transfer saga could start to build.
Lucas was able to play 45 minutes of the Tottenham Under-21 side’s 2-1 win over Arsenal’s Under-21s on Friday evening, scoring the opening goal as he showed excellent progress in his recovery.
After hearing that the Brazil international would be starting, Alasdair Gold of Football London hinted that it could alert those keen on him to resurrect their interest, with the Tottenham No.27 open to leaving.
On Twitter, Gold wrote: “Interesting timing for Lucas Moura to be back tonight for Spurs’ U21s. He’s had good days and bad days with the injury and hopefully this leads to more of the former. Understand the Brazilian is open to leaving Tottenham this month so this might show clubs he’s back in action.”
Of course, it is likely that Everton have also been waiting to sort out their managerial vacancy before making any signings, which is another potential reason why the interest in Lucas is yet to advance.
Everton could move for Lucas Moura once Sean Dyche arrives
According to Sky Sports, Everton have decided to hire Sean Dyche as a replacement for Frank Lampard, with official confirmation of his arrival set to come shortly.
In our view, once the 51-year-old’s appointment is made official, we could see a bid for Lucas go in.

The 30-year-old would bring a vast amount of experience to Everton’s fight against relegation, and given the fact he is open to leaving, a deal may be fairly straightforward to complete.
Be sure to keep an eye on the Brazilian’s situation, as anything could happen ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
