Gary Neville has sent a message to Jermaine Jenas about Tottenham after Spurs recorded an underwhelming 1-1 draw against Everton.

What’s the story?

Well, things went from bad to worse for Tottenham on Monday as Spurs threw away two points in stoppage time to a 10-man Everton side fighting against relegation.

In response to the result, Jenas wrote on Twitter that he “can’t watch this team anymore” as he expressed anger at his side’s current situation.

Neville – while not directly replying to Jenas – appeared to make a comment about that particular statement.

The Sky Sports pundit tweeted: “Interesting seeing former Spurs players that never got near to Champions League places for years when they played for the club saying they can’t watch this current team now. Spurs are in 4th place currently ahead of Chelsea , Manchester United and Liverpool. Perspective!”

Jenas only qualified for the Champions League once during his eight years at Tottenham, so it would seem Neville is referring to the 40-year-old.

In our view, it’s a strange comment from Neville, regardless of who it is aimed at.

Neville wrong to tell Jenas & Tottenham fans to have perspective

Tottenham’s current issues and the fact some supporters can no longer bring themselves to watch Spurs go far beyond this season’s stuttering fight for a top four place.

People like Jenas and other Tottenham fans who can’t watch their beloved side right now presumably feel more disillusioned with the bigger picture than merely the level of performance right now.

Yes – as Neville states – Spurs are currently fourth.

However, they are on the hunt for their fourth permanent manager since 2021, they have no Director of Football in place, and their current position in the Premier League’s top four certainly doesn’t feel sustainable.

As the likes of Newcastle and Brighton begin to rise up the Premier League, Tottenham could soon join Liverpool and Chelsea in falling outside of the top six.
