Brendan Rodgers has no excuses at Celtic ahead of the new Scottish Premiership season and ensuring the club’s passage to the title is much smoother.

Celtic won the double last season upon Rodgers’ return, but there were many bumps in the road for the team, as he tried to get used to his surroundings again after replacing Ange Postecoglou.

But now the Celtic faithful will be expected to dominate with more oomph, especially given the mess across Glasgow at Rangers.

For that to happen, the powers that be need to get the recruitment right, with the summer transfer market not moving as freely so far as fans would have liked.

The Bhoys start the campaign at home to Kilmarnock on August 4 – they proved to be a problem for the team last season, with Celtic thrashing Chelsea in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.

This also comes days after Celtic beat Manchester City, with the supporters getting a glimpse of the new faces.

Celtic hero Joe Hart retired in the summer and the Scottish giants decided to replace experience by bringing in even more experience in the form of Kasper Schmeichel.

Andy Townsend admitted that he found that transfer ‘interesting’ and loved the fact that Rodgers has brought him in, as he told talkSPORT (28/07/24 at 2:45 pm).

The former Republic of Ireland international highlighted Schmeichel’s distribution and how it’s ‘very, very good’.

“Obviously, Kasper Schmeichel is there now, which is interesting,” said Townsend. “ I think they (the Celtic fans) will like him too. Kasper’s distribution is usually very, very good.”

Celtic will dominate further

This is all about what Celtic do, rather than what happens across the road.

Rodgers just needs to make sure his team turn up when it matters most and they should be champions again.

Matt O’Riley’s future at Celtic is still up in the air, with the playmaker looking as good as ever in pre-season.

Whilst sources have told HITC that Paulo Bernardo wants to make a return to Celtic after he impressed on loan last time out.
