Premier League big-spenders Everton reportedly made a £16m bid for Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic in the summer – he’d cost far less now.
Marcelo Brozovic hasn’t quite been the same since he fell out with Frank de Boer during the Dutchman’s short-lived spell at Inter Milan at the start of the 2016/17 season.
Until then, the Croatian looked like being a key player for the Milan giants for years to come. These days, however, Brozovic has had to make do with a bit-part role.
He has started just seven of his 13 Serie A appearances under Luciano Spaletti this season and Calciomercato go as far as to claim that Inter would even consider selling Brozovic in January – for as little as £13 million.
Such a price-tag is a reflection of Inter’s desire to sell with the former Dinamo Zagreb midfielder having been available for about a year.
According to Gazetta dello Sport (21st June), Everton saw a £15.7 million bid rejected in the summer with Inter holding out for £22 million. But if The Toffees want to renew their interest in January, they could get their man for £7 million less.
While that may represent good value, it should be pointed out that there is a reason why Inter are now willing to accept a much smaller transfer fee for their misfit playmaker. The fact is that Brozovic simply hasn’t kicked on from that impressive 2015/16 season under Roberto Mancini.
And if Everton are going to sign a midfielder in the New Year, there are little signs to suggest that Brozovic is particularly high on their wishlist.
As reported by The Mail (live transfer blog, 1.55pm), The Toffees will step up their interest in Sevilla’s Steven N’Zonzi while they have also enquired about Nice’s Jean-Michel Seri, according to Tuttomercatoweb.
This leaves Brozovic rather stuck in limbo.
