Earlier in the summer HITC revealed that despite interest from elsewhere – new Manchester United owners Ineos had made it clear that they would not contemplate allowing Bruno Fernandes to leave the club.
That message was taken on by new sporting director Dan Ashworth, who was in complete agreement with Sir Jim Ratcliffe about Fernandes.
HITC previously revealed that Fernandes’s future was discussed at length by United at their end of season review which ultimately saw Erik Ten Hag retained as United boss.
Fernandes had himself admitted that he would talk with the club about his future plans, and that would be key to any decision. “I want to be competitive, I want to compete, I want to win,” he told DAZN Portugal towards the end of last season.

Bayern Munich and PSG approaches dismissed
Following on from Fernandes’s own admission that he was ready to consider his options, we can confirm that approaches were received and rejected with Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and the Saudi Pro League all showing an interest but United had no desire in parting company with Fernandes.
HITC can confirm that since then, the Portuguese has talked with United’s top brass and was impressed with what he heard and that has seen contract talks accelerated in recent weeks.
Now despite having two-years left on his current deal, United have opted to reward Fernandes with a contract that will put him on par with the club’s highest earners.
Contract agreed in principle
Sources with knowledge of the situation have confirmed that Fernandes and his representatives have agreed terms in principle on a three-year deal with the option for a further 12-months.
Fernandes’s new deal could even be announced before the end of the window and that may not be the only one finalised in the coming weeks.
HITC revealed earlier this summer that United were in talks over deals for Kobbie Mainoo and Amad Diallo and they are progressing.
