Josef Newgarden’s win at the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 has given him a boost in the 2026 IndyCar standings, but Alex Palou’s grip on the championship remains firm as the series approaches its halfway point.

Newgarden’s triumph at World Wide Technology Raceway — his record sixth at the Illinois oval — marked his second victory of the season and continued a strong run of form for the Team Penske driver.

But despite Newgarden’s success, it was another weekend that reinforced Palou’s status as the championship favorite.
