‘Incredible’: Tottenham boss Conte responds to links with Juventus job

Antonio Conte has responded when asked about reports linking him with a return to Juventus – as per Football London – by completely dismissing any chance of him leaving Tottenham to rejoin the Old Lady. Max Allegri is under pressure.

Conte, 53, returned to face the media on Thursday afternoon for the first time following the international break. He is preparing his Spurs side to take on North London rivals Arsenal on Saturday, in a crucial clash between the two sides.

The Italian remains out of contract at the end of the season at Spurs. But Football London report that Tottenham can extend his current deal by a further 12 months, without having to consult Conte first. He could also sign a new deal.

Asked about the reports that he could replace Allegri, Conte responded. He firstly stated it was disrespectful to talk about replacing a manager who is still at the helm. He also alluded to the fact that he is very happy at Tottenham.

“This is incredible. In this period I think this is disrespectful for the coach that works in Juventus and for me working in Tottenham. We have just started the season. I’ve always said I’m happy and enjoying my time with Tottenham.

“We have the whole season to find the best solution. I’m enjoying my time at Tottenham. I don’t see any problems at the moment in the future. We both signed the contract. I don’t want to listen to someone speaking about this.”

The comments will come as music to the ears of Tottenham fans. Of course, there will be increasing worry the closer we get to the end of the season, if Conte’s clause is not exercised – or he does not sign a new deal as Spurs manager.

But as things stand, he looks happy. It is difficult to predict what Conte is thinking. But he looks happy, Spurs are spending cash for him to continually improve the squad. He has spoken about needing three more windows at Spurs.

Indeed, that hints he is keen on remaining at the club at least until the end of the 2023-24 season. Whether Spurs can keep him for beyond that timescale remains to be seen. But the contract clause means they will get until at least then.
