Football London claim that Tottenham can trigger the extension clause of Antonio Conte at any point without the Italian’s say so, amid rumours that Conte could return to Juventus – with Max Allegri under increasing pressure.
Conte, 53, is out of contract at the end of the season. He has transformed Tottenham, making them a hard team to beat – rather than the ‘Spursy’ kind of side that were most-evident under Nuno Espirito Santo. Unbeaten, in the league.
Some are suggesting that Tottenham could even be title contenders this season. They sit level on points with Manchester City after seven games, and one behind Arsenal. They face Arsenal first up after the international break.
Even City midfielder Rodri has suggested they could challenge for first place. Conte has taken Tottenham to a new level, and convinced Daniel Levy to splash the cash. But there is doubt regarding his future as Tottenham manager.

He signed a deal until the end of the current season, with a clause included for another 12 months. Now, Gold reports that clause can be activated whenever Tottenham want to – and they do not need Conte’s say so.
Tottenham can trigger Conte clause without the Italian’s say so
While it is good news regarding Conte’s future, would Tottenham still want to get the nod from Conte to do so? It feels a bit selfish to go behind Conte’s back and extend his contract – without asking if he would like to do it, first.
Conte has been linked with a return to Juventus. Perhaps, in the next few weeks, it would be a good time to extend said clause. But to keep the peace, the harmony between board and boss, speaking to Conte first may be advisable.
If Conte is against signing a new deal and Spurs keep him for another 12 months, then the Italian is only going to leave anyway. It would leave Spurs with more compensation to pay. Making sure everyone is happy to do it, makes sense.
