Tottenham Hotspur have begun preparations for the 2024/2025 campaign under Ange Postecoglou.
For the majority of the Premier League, pre-season represents a big opportunity for the club’s academy players to prove their worth whilst some of the first team players are resting following international excursions.
Tottenham Hotspur are set to be no different with Rodrigo Bentancur, Cristian Romero, Micky van De Ven and Radu Dragusin unavailable for the next few weeks.
With Bentancur’s absence, in particular, this could provide a chance for one exciting summer signing to begin making an impact at the club and he could prove to be the breakout star during the off-season.

Lucas Bergvall is the player to watch for Tottenham
Back in January, Tottenham surprised many by completing the permanent signing of Djurgardens promising midfielder Lucas Bergvall.
After confirmation of the deal to join the Lilywhites, ahead of Barcelona who were understood to be very keen on the Swedish midfielder, Bergvall spoke out about his ‘dream’ of playing in the Premier League.
“It’s always been my dream to play in the Premier League, the best league in the world,” he said.
“It feels like the beginning of an era here at Tottenham. There’s a great coach, Ange. It’s a great club, a great manager with a hungry and young team playing really good football.”
Former Swedish international Martin Aslund had actually tipped Bergvall to become the GOAT (greatest of all time) for his national team, ahead of former iconic forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
“I think he will be a very good national team player. I think he ends up in a top team in the Benelux and there he can become the GOAT [Greatest of all time],” Aslund said. “Lucas is an incredible footballer.”
With one of Spurs’ key midfielders unavailable for a couple of weeks, Bergvall will have a chance to shine.
Bergvall has to take chance when given to him
Bentancur played for Uruguay at the Copa America but seemed to suffer another injury problem, whilst the future of Danish midfielder Pierre Emile Hojbjerg is unclear.
With Archie Gray having also joined this summer from Leeds United to play in midfield, Bergvall, despite being just 18 years of age, has the chance to form an exciting partnership with the Englishman.
With nine goals and six assists during his time in the Djurgardens first team, Bergvall could offer key creativity from the midfield that Spurs have been lacking this summer.
He was mainly played as a number eight who likes to drift left but his big frame, at 6 foot 1 inches tall, means he could adapt to the Premier League very comfortably.
He has the confidence and the belief to succeed. If he is given a chance during pre-season under Postecoglou, you’d expect him to grab that opportunity with both hands.
