One Tottenham Hotspur star has suffered yet another injury blow on international duty as his bad luck continues.

Ange Postecoglou is preparing for his second season in charge at Tottenham Hotspur with the Australian looking for recruitments to help bolster his side to potentially qualifying for the Champions League.

A new midfielder is understood to be one of the priorities for the club this summer and the Lilywhites are interested in Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

However, the current crop of options Spurs have in midfield are certainly no slouches but the injury issues suffered by Rodrigo Bentancur has meant that a new option had to be considered.

£15 million Spurs midfielder suffers fresh injury setback

Spurs midfielder Bentancur has been away on international duty with Uruguay and the former Juventus star had been impressing for the South American side.

Marcelo Bielsa was full of praise for Bentancur, as well as his midfield partner Federico Valverde, for their performances earlier in the Copa America tournament.

However, during the 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the semi-final, thanks to a 39th minute goal from former Bournemouth midfielder Jefferson Lerma, Bentancur went down with a problem again.

Bentancur was replaced in the first half of the game against Colombia and was awarded a 5/10 performance by El Observador.

“But after 25 minutes he began to run with difficulty,” El Observador wrote. “At 32 minutes he asked for the substitution, because it was clear that he could not take it anymore.

“Right there, he lost James’ mark who put in a cross and Colombia’s first almost arrived, because Ugarte lost in the heights. He left the field crying in the 33rd minute and his injury disordered the team then minutes later, they went 1-0 down.

Bentancur’s bad luck with injuries continues

Since moving to Spurs back in January of 2022, the Uruguayan midfielder has been so unfortunate with his injury problems.

Postecoglou himself remains a big fan of the Uruguayan despite the injury problems he has had to deal with.

“When he came back, I thought in the Villa game he was outstanding and then he gets a knock within 15 or 20 minutes and is out again. It’s been disruptive even with the absence he’s had, but I’ve been really happy with Rodri,” he said back in February.
