Mauricio Pochettino has praised Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris on his Instagram story for his ‘amazing journey’ after he retired from international football with France.
The 36-year-old has hung up his boots on the international stage, as reported by France journalist Julien Laurens, after winning the 2018 World Cup in Russia, but losing in the final to Argentina less than a month ago in Qatar.
France were beaten on penalties by Lionel Messi-inspired Argentina in perhaps the greatest-ever game to have been played.

It ended in heartache for Tottenham’s number one, but he can hold his head up high for what he has done for his national side.
When Pochettino was at Hotspur Way, Lloris was a key figure in between the sticks during the club’s rise to playing Champions League football on a consistent basis, including reaching the final of the European Cup.
And now Pochettino has sent his former goalkeeper the following message via his IG story after tonight’s breaking news.
“Congratulations, Hugo on your amazing journey with France,” said Pochettino. “Incredible history created.”

LLORIS’S FUTURE AT TOTTENHAM
It’s the end of the road for Lloris as France’s number one, but it could also be the start of the end for him at Spurs, with less than 18 months remaining on his current contract.
He joined the club back in 2012 for £12 million (BBC Sport) and he has been a long-serving and healthy servant for the club.
From Andres Villas-Boas to Antonio Conte, he has been through many managers in north London, with that all-important trophy still alluding him and the club.
Perhaps it could come under Conte, with Spurs recently beating League One outfit Portsmouth to book their ticket into the next round of the FA Cup over the weekend.
