Manor Solomon is set to sign a new contract in a blow to Premier League suitors Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Arsenal, Shakhtar Donetsk’s CEO tells Ynet

That is not to say the Israel international is destined to wile away his prime years at the Ukrainian giants however.

Solomon’s current deal expires in 2023 and a new contract will act as a means to protect and enhance his transfer value, rather than remove any uncertainty surrounding the winger’s future.

Either way, with Solomon expected to put pen to paper sooner rather than later, the task facing the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle will become that little bit more difficult.

TEAMtalk reported late last year that Solomon had admirers at Tottenham, Aston Villa and at a Newcastle United side capable of blowing their top-flight rivals out of the water, even if their nouveau-riche status has been undermined as they circle the Premier League plughole.

Arsenal, meanwhile, reportedly made a £17 million offer last summer and continue to watch him closely.

Shakhtar supporters can sleep a little easier tonight, however, with the skilful Solomon sticking around for the time being.

Where next for Manor Solomon?

“We’ve been in talks and we talked to his agent a week ago so we’re progressing with that (a new contract),” CEO Sergei Falkin explains.

Falkin also distanced the club from reports suggesting Solomon could be exchanged for Jeremie Boga, the jet-heeled Ivorian who shone under current Shakhtar boss Roberto de Zerbi at Sassuolo.

Solomon, Falkin says, is not only ‘better’ than Boga but also three years younger than the one-time Chelsea starlet.

Such a claim is debatable to say the least even if Solomon did score an impressive 11 goals in all competitions last term, two of those coming against Real Madrid in the Champions League group-stages.
