Leicester City are hoping to take Jeremie Boga back to the Premier League with the former Chelsea youngster expected to set Brendan Rodgers’ side back around £35 million, as reported by Calciomercato.

If you created a front three of players who slipped through Chelsea’s fingers, Boga would probably find himself on the outside looking in.

That is more a reflection of Kevin de Bruyne’s undying brilliance, and the ruthlessness of Mo Salah and Romelu Lukaku, than anything else.

Boga, since the start of 2019/20, has been one of the most fearsome attacking talents in Serie A, blossoming at a Sassuolo side with a fine track record when it comes to turning youngsters into match-winners.

The fleet-footed Ivory Coast international is set to follow Shakhtar Donetsk-bound coach Roberto di Zerbi out the door too, confirming his intention to leave the Mapei Stadium this weekend.

“After three years here, it’s the right time to say goodbye,” said the 24-year-old (TMW).

Sassuolo have no plans to merely shake Boga by the hand and wish him luck at his new club, however. CEO Giovanni Carnevali has insisted that the one-time Birmingham City loanee was ‘not for sale’ – and, even if he was, any bids would need to start at £35 million.

Carnevali’s very public stance has not stopped the likes of Atalanta, Napoli or Leicester from expressing their interest, however, with Lyon also in the market for a Memphis Depay replacement.

The report adds that Leicester’s financial might – and the lure of Premier League football – could give the Foxes a distinct advantage over their many rivals.

Boga made just one appearance in England’s top flight during his time at Chelsea before joining Sassuolo for a bargain fee of just £3.5 million in 2018.
