Newcastle United fans have been blown away by footage of Eddie Howe talking tactics to the Coaches’ Voice

Howe is set to become Newcastle’s manager today, and is about to pen a two and a half year deal at the club, according to Sky Sports.

The 43-year-old wasn’t actually Newcastle’s first choice for the role, but he seems to be becoming a more popular appointment as time goes by.

What has helped Howe is that he clearly is a very talented tactician.

Steve Bruce wasn’t particularly popular by the end of his time at St. James’ Park.

But even his supporters would admit that his strengths don’t necessarily lie in the tactical side of the game.

That is why Newcastle fans have found Howe’s comments back in 2020 so refreshing.

In the clip, Howe is describing how he set his Bournemouth side up to win 3-0 against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The new Magpies boss shows great attention to detail in what is a fascinating footage.

And Newcastle fans certainly were impressed by the way Howe could dissect his tactical plans.

Under pressure

For all Howe’s impressive tactical knowledge, he is under pressure to make sure his system works almost immediately at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle’s poor start to the season, which has seen them go winless in their first 10 games, has seen them cut adrift in the relegation zone.

The Tynesiders will need Howe to improve their performances significantly if they are to collect enough points to catch those sides ahead of them.

Newcastle tried to play a more attacking brand of football this term under Steve Bruce, but that left them more vulnerable at the back.

Since taking temporary charge Graeme Jones has adopted a more defensive approach, but that also hasn’t had much success.

And Howe will need to find a happy medium if he is to start seeing Newcastle climb up the table.
