Dion Dublin has told BBC Sport that Eddie Howe would be a good managerial appointment for Newcastle United.

What’s the story?

BBC Sport are reporting tonight that Newcastle are set to appoint Howe as their new manager.

It is being reported that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) are close to reaching an agreement with the Englishman.

There is hope among PIF officials that Howe will be appointed in time to take charge of the team against Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League on Saturday.

Dion Dublin’s verdict

Former Manchester United and Aston Villa player Dublin believes Howe, 43, would be a good manager for Newcastle.

Dublin told BBC Sport: “Eddie Howe has good stock in the footballing world, in footballing circles.

“He plays good stuff and he coaches very well. The players that play under him seem to enjoy playing for him.

“If they were to get Eddie, I don’t think it is a bad thing at all. It would be a very good appointment.”

Perfect manager for Newcastle

In our view, Amanda Staveley and co. are about to make a very good decision.

Howe is a brilliant manager who did extremely well at Bournemouth.

The Englishman guided the Cherries to promotion to the Premier League and established them in the English top flight.

Okay, so Bournemouth got relegated under Howe, but, let’s admit it, that was bound to happen at some point.

Now, Newcastle are in a relegation battle at the moment, and Howe does have the experience of fighting for survival.

Oh, Bournemouth also played good football under Howe.
