Paul Merson has predicted Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea and Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur to play out a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League this weekend, as quoted in SportsKeeda.
The former Arsenal star has warned Chelsea and Tottenham against losing the London derby on Sunday.
The Sky Sports pundit believes that neither Tottenham nor Chelsea can afford to lose this game, and has also said that he is worried about the Blues.
Paul Merson on Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur
Merson wrote in SportKeeda: “This match is massive, and not just because of the rivalry between the two teams. Chelsea beat Tottenham four times last season. They did the double over Spurs in the Premier League and that produced a huge 12-point swing in their favor.
“I’m worried for Chelsea this weekend. They were a bit United-ish against Everton, if I’m being honest. Their game wasn’t fluid and pretty stop-start, and they couldn’t put four passes together against an Everton team that wasn’t great to begin with. If Spurs come to Stamford Bridge and win, you’d be worried about Chelsea and their top-four credentials.

“Tottenham will want to make a statement here. A victory against Chelsea would turn heads, even if it’s only the second game of the season.
“If they lose after buying all those players, however, you’ll hear talk of how they still haven’t caught up with the Premier League’s big boys.
“If either team loses this match, it’s a massive step in the wrong direction. Neither Chelsea nor Tottenham Hotspur can afford to suffer defeat this weekend, and I think this game will end in a draw.”
Who will win the London derby?
In our view, Tottenham Hotspur will fancy their chances of winning the London derby against Chelsea even though it is at Stamford Bridge.
Now, of course, we know that Chelsea are a strong team, but they are still in the process of getting their starting lineup in place this season.
Antonio Conte already has a settled team at Tottenham, and he has made some good additions this summer.
Moreover, Conte will be determined to win against his former employers and send a strong message to the Premier League.
Now, no one should expect Tottenham to win the Premier League title this season, but if they are to close the gap between themselves and Liverpool and Manchester City, then these are the type of games that Spurs need to win.
