Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has admitted that he would be open to returning to the club to train.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, the 29-year-old free agent was given his thoughts on Mikel Arteta’s recent comments on Wilshere.
The Arsenal manager revealed last week that ‘the door is always open’ for Wilshere, who left in 2018 after the departure of Arsene Wenger.
Wilshere left AFC Bournemouth in the summer but was unable to find a new club in the window. The 34-cap England international remains a free agent and has been training with numerous teams.
And when asked if he would return to Arsenal to train, Wilshere revealed that it is a possibility that could happen in the coming days. The former West Ham star said: “It can only help me.
“Being around good players, training with world-class players and as well just being in a team environment is something I’m interested in. I’m sure that I’ll have a conversation with someone at the club over the next couple of days.”
Indeed, a return to London Colney for Wilshere would be a welcome sight for Arsenal fans. Moreover, some supporters still eager for the club to outright re-sign the former Emirates hero.
However, with Arsenal having four central midfielders on their books and no European football, Wilshere’s playing time would be extremely limited given his lack of playing time over the past 12 months.
