Kevin de Bruyne says he is ‘happy’ for Mikel Arteta, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko as Arsenal are sitting at the top of the Premier League table, as the Manchester City playmaker told Amazon Prime.

Arsenal are five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table and de Bruyne added that the north London club are ‘deserving’ of their current position.

After 15 Premier League games, Arteta’s men have lost only one game – an away defeat to Manchester United – and they are five points clear of the current champions of England.

Pep Guardiola is searching for a fifth title in six seasons, but most importantly, a record-breaking three-in-a-row, only Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United have reached that feat in English football.

But rather than previous challengers Liverpool being in their way, it’s Arsenal that are sticking their chest out and dreaming of a first title in over a decade.

De Bruyne started and helped Man City beat Leeds United 3-1 at Elland Road on Wednesday night, with none other than Erling Haaland netting a brace, as the Belgian was asked to share his thoughts on Arsenal before the game.

“Is there a part in your mind that looks at Arsenal and says ‘hang on a minute, we gave them a coach. We have given them a few players. They are pretty good, at the moment, and now they are ahead of us in the Premier League’. What’s going on,” asked Laura Woods.

de Bruyne responded: “I know. Everybody takes a pathway and I’m happy for Mikel (Arteta), Gabi (Jesus) and Zinchenko to do well because they have done so much for us.

“But then, obviously we want to beat them. They have been deserving it for the moment. They have been the best team in England, for the time being, and we also know it’s a long way to go. We are going to fight to get that first place again.”

HAALAND SMASHING RECORDS

Whilst Arsenal search for that forward in the January transfer market after Gabriel Jesus’ injury, their title rivals are scoring goals for fun.

Erling Haaland himself has more goals than nine other teams in the Premier League, including Chelsea, with 20 to his name from his 14 matches.

If he stays out of the treatment room, then Arsenal’s chances of winning the title decrease because he’s probably going to hit 40 alone.

That would mean Arteta has to guide his team to 95+ points because that’s the crazy numbers Man City can hit.
