Lee Dixon has described Sadio Mane as a ‘very lucky boy’ for his foul during Liverpool’s trip to Chelsea.

Within seconds of kickoff, the Liverpool winger conceded a foul for elbowing Cesar Azpilicueta in the face.

After a VAR check, referee Anthony Taylor issued Mane with a yellow card.

But the former Arsenal right-back has told NBC Sport that it would’ve been a straight red had the incident come later in the game.

He told NBC Sport: “I’m gonna say something now: if it was 40 minutes into the game, he’s off. He knew exactly what he was doing. Very lucky boy.”

Darren England was the VAR official.

But originally it was meant to be Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp foe Paul Tierney.

Some Liverpool supporters were delighted on Sunday after discovering that Tierney was no longer set to overlook the clash in a VAR role.

However, it would’ve been fascinating to know what his decision would’ve been.

Klopp accused Tierney of having a ‘problem’ with him last month following a controversial 2-2 draw with Spurs in North London.

But despite Dixon’s comments, you could argue that it wasn’t even a red card and therefore Tierney might not have been any harsher than England was.
