Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Eddie Howe has been discussing Enzo Fernandez after Alan Shearer urged the Magpies to sign the Argentina star.
Fernandez was one of the World Cup’s best players. He won the Young Player of the Tournament award and has been the subject of so much transfer speculation throughout the tournament.
As the richest club in the world, Newcastle have, inevitably, been linked with Fernandez, and Howe was asked about the possibility of a transfer pursuit.
The Newcastle boss says that he knows all about this young man, but he admitted that his transfer fee may be a bit on the high side for Newcastle.

Howe discusses Fernandez
“I’m aware of him, & I know him. But I think the transfer fee might be quite lumpy,” Howe said – via the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope.
This comes after Alan Shearer said he’d love to see Fernandez at Newcastle.
“Absolutely, yes,” said Shearer. “See if he wants to play against Bournemouth on Tuesday night.”
Sadly, Howe didn’t hear those comments, stating that he watched ITV’s coverage instead.
“I apologise to Alan, I was on the other channel,” Howe joked.
Imagine him and Bruno
Fernandez may be a bit out of reach for Newcastle right now. After all, he is being strongly linked to Liverpool, but could you imagine if the Magpies did sign him?
A midfield including Fernandez and Bruno Guimaraes would genuinely be one of the very best in Europe, and it would be an absolute joy to watch.
Sadly, Howe’s comments make it seem as though this is a player who won’t be signing for the Magpies, but this is a mouth-watering idea to say the least.
