Pundit Alan Shearer has suggested that Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez would look good in a Newcastle United shirt after his World Cup displays.
Argentina have been crowned world champions after a truly ridiculous final this evening.
Argentina were 2-0 up and cruising before Kylian Mbappe did what Kylian Mbappe does and took over the game, scoring twice in less than two minutes.
Lionel Messi looked to have won it for Argentina in extra time before Mbappe again scored from the penalty spot to make it 3-3 and send the game to penalties.
Emiliano Martinez saved from Kingsley Coman and Aurelien Tchouameni in the shootout, handing Argentina the win as Gonzalo Montiel scored the crucial penalty.
This was understandably all about Messi, winning the big prize in what looks to be his final World Cup – but other Argentina players excelled too, including midfielder Fernandez, who is now being backed for Newcastle.

Alan Shearer backs Fernandez for Newcastle
Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez ended up making a huge impact in this World Cup after coming on to score a beauty against Mexico.
Fernandez barely missed a minute after that introduction, taking on a key role in the Argentina midfield.
Fernandez was recognised for his performances as he won the Young Player of the Tournament award and was presented with his trophy after the full-time whistle.
The 21-year-old is probably more interested in lifting the World Cup but that personal accolade will mean a lot too.
Fernandez may make a big move in 2023 with clubs flocking to sign him – and why not throw Newcastle into that mix too.
As Fernandez walked up to claim his award, Gary Lineker asked Alan Shearer whether he would like to see the midfielder in a black and white Newcastle shirt.
Shearer stated (BBC Sport, 6:27pm) that he would ‘absolutely’ like to see that one day having been impressed with his World Cup showings.
Shearer added that it might be worth asking if Fernandez fancies playing for Newcastle against Bournemouth in midweek as the attention switches towards the EFL Cup.
“Absolutely, yes,” said Shearer. “See if he wants to play against Bournemouth on Tuesday night!” he added.
