Former Aston Villa striker, Gabby Agbonlahor, has claimed on Instagram that he is ‘applying’ for the Tottenham job.
Sky Sports posted on their Instagram page that Tottenham won’t be appointing Paulo Fonseca as their new manager after talks broke down between both parties.
Agbonlahor, who came through the ranks at Aston Villa before scoring 73 Premier League goals, wrote the following in the comments section of Sky’s Instagram post when they broke the news:
“I’m applying for it,” said the former striker. “I have just passed my UEFA A license.”
It perhaps shows the joke Tottenham have become that they are getting bantered by the likes of Agbonlahor.
Fonseca isn’t the first manager who has seen talks collapse with Spurs, because previously, many thought it was Antonio Conte who was going to replace Jose Mourinho until things turned sour with the Italian.
If it wasn’t for Euro 2020, and the tournament overshadowing domestic matters, then the mess Daniel Levy has put Spurs in would be more visible to those on the outside.
To the Tottenham faithful, they can see it clear as day but come Saturday, it will be two months to the day that the club sacked Mourinho, yet no replacement has come in.
Everton, who parted ways with Carlo Ancelotti unexpectedly at the start of the month, are seemingly close to appointing Rafa Benitez.
Whilst, Wolves have already replaced Nuno Espirito Santo with Bruno Lage after he left at the end of the 2020/21 season.
Tottenham, meanwhile, with Harry Kane’s future up in the air and a couple of seasons of decline, aren’t sliding down a slippery slope, but voluntarily going down it themselves.
