Liverpool have been tipped to renew an interest in Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans in January.

Het Nieuwsblad in Belgium reported during the summer that Liverpool were keen on the 24-year-old, who cost Brendan Rodgers £40 million back in 2019 [The Guardian].

The Reds were in the market for a long-term replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum at the time but the window passed without Jurgen Klopp signing anybody of that ilk, with a deal to sign centre-back Ibrahima Konate the only piece of business they did during the off-season.

With Harvey Elliott out for the long term, Liverpool may well take a serious look at a midfielder again once the winter window is open for business.

And former USA international Janusz Michallik has told ESPN that he could see Klopp and Michael Edwards trying to lure Tielemans to Anfield once again.

He told ESPN: “He’s been tremdendous ever since he came over to Leicester City. I think Youri Tielemans recognises the fact that he has sold himself in the Premier League as one of those players who can make a difference.

“If you look at Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp, this is someone who can fill the void of Gini Wijnaldum. If this were to happen, I wouldn’t be surprised because his profile fits Liverpool football club.”

Klopp loves him

The Telegraph has previously reported – as covered by HITC Sport - that the Liverpool boss would love to have him at Anfield.

But at the time, he was considered too expensive.

However, in January, Tielemans will have only 18 months left on his contract at the King Power Stadium and he shouldn’t cost a bomb.

This is one that could very well happen but it depends how invested Liverpool are in signing a midfielder because as history proved, they weren’t very committed to replacing Wijnaldum during the summer.
