Andy Cole has labelled Newcastle United transfer target, Antonio Rudiger, as a ‘brilliant’ player and added he would be a ‘huge loss’ to Chelsea if he left.
Given the sanctions imposed on Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich, it has put doubt on the future of a lot of the club’s players because, at this moment in time, they can’t sign anyone during the forthcoming transfer window, tie-down players to new deals, or conduct any other deals.
Of course, all of that could change if new owners come into the club by the time the summer comes about.
But, as things stand, Rudiger is heading for the Stamford Bridge exit door, with the heavy pockets of Newcastle United seemingly keen on signing him on a free.
It’s ambitious from the Magpies, very ambitious and that would send shockwaves through the Premier League if it happens.
Ex-Newcastle striker, Cole, shared his verdict on the player and stated that he is ‘surprised’ Chelsea haven’t previously penned him down to a new contract, as he told Sky Sports News.
“He will be a huge loss,” said Cole. “Rudiger, for me, has come on so much since the departure of Lampard.
“If you look at him now. He is a mainstay in that Chelsea team. If they lost him, then it’s going to be a big, big loss.
“I know he’s got options now because he’s going to be a free transfer in the summer. But I am surprised Chelsea didn’t sign him up, before they found themselves in this position now.
“So far this season and last season, I think he has been brilliant for them.”

It’s understandable why Newcastle are pushing for Rudiger because they are trying to stick their chests out and make themselves known.
But, at the end of the day, if he leaves the Bridge, then he will head to another Champions League club.
At the age of 29, after winning the Champions League last season, the German star is at the peak of his powers.
He’s not going to waste his best years trying to help Newcastle reach the top because many, many top teams in world football will be knocking on his door, especially given Chelsea’s situation.
