Newcastle United are interested in signing Chelsea central defender Antonio Rudiger in the summer transfer window, according to The Telegraph.
Rudiger is out of contract at Chelsea at the end of the season and Newcastle reportedly wanted to sign the 29-year-old centre-back on a free transfer in the summer of 2022.
The Magpies are reportedly ready to make a move for Rudiger, who won the Champions League with Chelsea last season.
Spanish and European giants Real Madrid are also keen on signing the Germany international, who earns £100,000 per week as salary (Spotrac) – a figure that Newcastle’s owners, PIF, could easily afford.
Could Antonio Rudiger join Newcastle from Chelsea?
In our view, it is unlikely that Newcastle will be able to bring Rudiger to St. James’ Park on a free transfer in the summer of 2022.

Yes, Newcastle have the richest owners in club football, and it is also likely that Eddie Howe’s side will retain their Premier League status for next season.
However, we find it really hard to imagine Rudiger playing for Newcastle.
The defender is at the top of his game now, and he will surely want to play for a club who are used to winning major trophies.
