Another day at Arsenal, another dramatic episode for the club, this time involving now-former captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gunners posted a statement earlier today on their official website that the 32-year-old striker had been stripped of the armband following a disciplinary breach last week.

As reported by the Athletic, Aubameyang was late to training following a sanctioned trip abroad for family reasons, with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta now making the decision to strip the attacker of the captain’s armband.

Indeed, it is a bombshell of a story given that the drama from the weekend, in which Aubameyang was dropped from the squad because of said lateness, seemed to have been cleared up. However, there is clearly more to the story than meets the eye.

With Arsenal now captainless, fans on social media are theorising who could be next to take the armband. And one name that seems to be a popular opinion is Kieran Tierney.

The defender, who joined the Gunners in 2019 from Celtic for £25m according to Sky Sports News, has been a mainstay at the club over the past three seasons. And supporters are eager for the Scotsman to become the new captain of Arsenal this week with Aubameyang now stripped of his duties.

After all, Tierney’s personality makes him a likeable figure in the changing room, and his loud and boisterous personality makes him a leader on the pitch. Something Arsenal fans believe make the 24-year-old perfect to become captain.

With a decision on a new Arsenal captain likely to be made soon, supporters will be keeping their fingers crossed that Tierney will be chosen to succeed Aubameyang.
