Well, Alexander Isak to Newcastle United is looking like a formality at this stage.

According to multiple reliable sources, the Magpies have agreed a deal with Real Sociedad to sign the Sweden international in what will be a club-record £60 million transfer for the St James’s Park outfit.

Isak could be and hopefully is the striker Newcastle need to move to the next level following Saudi Public Investment Fund’s takeover in 2021.

But his arrival might well prompt a certain Chris Wood to consider quitting the Tyneside outfit between now and the end of the summer transfer window.

The former Leeds United hitman only joined Newcastle during the January transfer window.

However, two goals in 20 Premier League appearances might illustrate that he hasn’t exactly set the world alight in the North East.

This season, Wood, a New Zealand international, has only managed 24 minutes across three Premier League appearances, averaging eight minutes per game.

He is firmly behind Callum Wilson in Eddie Howe’s pecking order.

So you can imagine that the arrival of Isak would bury him even further at St James’s Park and it honestly wouldn’t be a surprise if Wood handed in a transfer request.

Simply put, he just isn’t going to play very often for Newcastle this season and leaving the Magpies now makes more sense than staying, despite only joining in 2022.

Despite struggling under Howe, this is a proven Premier League goalscorer and there’s plenty of top-flight clubs who need him.

Sadly, Newcastle aren’t one of them at the moment – and definitely not if Isak comes in.
