There’s concerning news coming out of Arsenal regarding Mohamed Elneny.

Mikel Arteta labelled him ‘special’ [GOAL] back in 2020 and there’s no doubt that Elneny has been a big player at times for the Gunners down the years.

Okay so he hasn’t always been first on Arteta’s best XI at Arsenal.

But anytime the Egypt international is called upon, he invariably does a satisfactory job.

However, his Arsenal career might be over.

According to The Times on Thursday – as covered by HITC Sport – Elneny might miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

And with his contract expiring this summer, it’s probable that Arsenal supporters have seen the last of him, if that injury report is accurate.

The North Londoners have an option to extend his contract by another year, but that requires a major leap of faith.

That’s because Elneny may not even be fit by the time his initial deal expires, but also Arsenal are already linked to midfielders this month – like Weston McKennie – and if they sign one, there’ll be no room for the former Basel midfielder.

It could be a disappointing end to a steady career at the Emirates Stadium.

Not many players are loaned out and then go on to save their overall Arsenal career, so it is a testament to Elneny – who spent a year at Besiktas – and his professionalism.

But if he is out for the rest of the campaign, this could be the end of Elneny as a Gooner.
