Earlier today, Arsenal and Leicester played out an entertaining game at the Emirates Stadium as the Gunners recorded a 4-2 win in the Premier League.

Two goals from Gabriel Jesus and a predatory finish from Granit Xhaka sandwiched an unfortunate own goal from William Saliba, before James Maddison gave Leicester hope – a swift reply from Gabriel Martinelli, however, silenced the Foxes.

On the topic of Maddison, it was something the £20m Leicester man was seen doing in the first half that may have contributed to a simple opening 45 minutes for the north Londoners.

What’s the story?

Well, Michael Brown – who used to play for Manchester City – was covering the game on BBC Radio 5 Live when he noticed the England international failing to position himself accordingly in the No.10 role.

The 45-year-old said: “Maddison is dropping really deep, if I’m Mikel Arteta I’m delighted he’s so far away on the halfway line. He’s not in that No.10 position causing problems.”

Interestingly, Maddison was seen operating much further forward in the second half, where he got himself on the scoresheet with a low drive under Aaron Ramsdale.

Sadly for the Foxes, the 25-year-old’s efforts couldn’t help them get anything out of the game.

Arsenal 4-2 Leicester may have been an audition

Coincidentally, Arsenal are actually said to be interested in signing Maddison.

Therefore, if Arteta also noticed the fact that Leicester’s No.10 wasn’t doing much when played deeper by Brendan Rodgers, it should give the Spaniard a clear indication of how not to use Maddison if he does manage to sign him.

The Gunners face competition from Tottenham if they are to sign the Foxes star, while Newcastle are also keen.

Ultimately, on what was a disappointing day for Leicester, Maddison did his chances of a move to Arsenal no harm.
