Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United think that Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur target James Maddison is keen on a move to St. James’ Park in the summer transfer window, according to The Daily Mail.

The Daily Mail have reported today that despite having a structured £35 million bid for Maddison turned down last week, Newcastle remain in talks with his club Leicester City and are hopeful of completing a deal.

The Magpies do not want to pay the £60 million transfer fee that former Premier League champions Leicester want for the 25-year-old attacking midfielder, described as “superbly consistent” by former Tottenham striker Gary Lineker on Twitter in May 2022.

However, according to the report, Newcastle ‘have been given some encouragement that Maddison would be keen on a move and have not given up on the midfielder’.

Newcastle stance on James Maddison blow for Arsenal

Newcastle United reportedly pressing ahead with more talks for James Maddison will come as a blow for Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Both the Gunners and Spurs have been linked with the 25-year-old, who scored 12 goals and gave eight assists in the Premier League and scored one goal and gave two assists in the Europa League last season.

Well-known and well-respected journalist Dean Jones told Give Me Sport on July 20 that Tottenham “have touched base over Maddison”.

Over the weekend, 90min claimed that Arsenal and Tottenham are keen on the England international attacking midfielder.

But if Newcastle think that Maddison is keen on a transfer to St. James’ Park and continue talks with Leicester this week, then Tottenham and Arsenal could miss out on signing him.
