Speaking on the BBC Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast, Alan Shearer has been discussing Liverpool target Kylian Mbappe.

Shearer, alongside Gary Lineker and Micah Richards was tasked with ranking the 10 players they think will star at this World Cup, and, of course, Kylian Mbappe came out on top.

Mbappe was the star player in 2018, and he remains one of the best players on the planet heading into this tournament.

Shearer believes that Mbappe could be the difference maker for France in this tournament, stating that France will have every chance of winning their second straight World Cup if Mbappe turns up and the team stays on the same page.

Mbappe could win it for France

Shearer tipped Mbappe to be France’s gamechanger.

“Mbappe, do you think he will be the superstar of this World Cup?” Gary Lineker asked.

“They have every chance of winning it. If he performs and they all stay on the same page then he in my opinion has the best opportunity,” Shearer said.

Unplayable

Mbappe is one of the few players at this tournament that can be described as unplayable on his day.

The Frenchman’s combination of speed, skill and composure make him one of the most unique and effective weapons in world football, and if he can get his ego out of the way, he’ll be a star once again.

Sadly, off the pitch issues have affected Mbappe in recent months. His relationship with his bosses at PSG is souring – hence the links to Liverpool, and he seems to be growing evermore selfish on the pitch, often throwing something of a strop when he doesn’t receive the ball when his team attacks.

However, if he can get his head straight and focus on the task at hand, he could well lead France to their third World Cup triumph.
