Graeme Souness feels West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen is ‘ideal’ target for Man Utd
West Ham United livewire Jarrod Bowen would be an ‘ideal’ target for Manchester United to try and sign this summer. That is the opinion of Graeme Souness, who has told talkSPORT that Erik ten Hag is ‘crying out for’ an attacker with the England international’s application.

Ten Hag has seen in the start to his tenure at Old Trafford with successive defeats to begin the Premier League season. The Red Devils are one of just three sides, with West Ham and Everton, yet to so far secure a point this term to sit bottom of the table on goal difference.

Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga have already enjoyed chances to play off the wings under Ten Hag. Christian Eriksen and Cristiano Ronaldo have also led the Red Devils’ frontline through their opening defeats at home to Brighton and away to Brentford.
Bowen can feature in either position, having demonstrated great versatility under former Manchester United boss David Moyes at West Ham. The 25-year-old led the Irons with 12 goals in 36 Premier League games last season, with eight struck in 30 outings off the flank.
He also made a team-high 12 assists at the London Stadium, which would have been good enough to rank first at Old Trafford by three. Ronaldo was Manchester United’s top-scorer in 2021/22 with 18 from 30 games after signing from Juventus for £13m, rising up to £20m.

Jarrod Bowen relentlessness is what Erik ten Hag is missing at Old Trafford
Souness feels Bowen’s relentlessness is what Ten Hag is missing the most with Manchester United and would gain from raiding West Ham. The four-cap England forward – who joined the Irons from Hull City for £22m in 2020 – often provides endless drive off the right-wing.
“That’s another one [along with Aston Villa captain John McGinn] who would be ideal for Man United,” Souness said. “Warrior types. That’s what Man United need. He’s non-stop.
“He goes no matter what, and that’s what Man United are crying out for. They are going for the icing on the cake before they’ve even baked the cake.”
Bowen’s energetic exploits at the London Stadium saw him finish as runner-up to Declan Rice for West Ham’s Player of the Season award in May. Gareth Southgate also rewarded the Leominster-born livewire with his England debut in June and two starts in four games.
