Manchester City are reportedly keeping tabs on Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta as a potential replacement for Pep Guardiola.

According to the Athletic, the Premier League giants have been watching Arteta’s progress as a manager with the north London side with keen interest since leaving for the capital over two years ago.

As well as Arteta, Crystal Palace head coach Patrick Vieira is another figure who could replace Guardiola at City when the Catalan eventually leaves Manchester.

Arteta joined Arsenal in 2019 and has done well with the Gunners given the size of the job at hand. The former City coach won the FA Cup in his first season and currently finds himself fourth in the Premier League standings.

Indeed, Arteta has shown he has the talent to manage a top side, and with his contract expiring this summer, City could make a move for the Arsenal manager if his situation is not cleared up soon.

It would be a stunning turn of events given all the Basque coach has done for Arsenal and the foundations he has laid for the club. And on social media, supporters are stunned that City could appoint Arteta.

With Guardiola stating his intention to leave City when his contract ends, replacing the three-time Premier League winner with Arteta would make sense given his links to the club.

Yet for Arsenal fans, Arteta leaving for City would be seen as the ultimate betrayal after everything the young manager has done for the club since arriving in 2019.

Here’s what some Arsenal fans had to say on Twitter about City’s interest in Arteta as a replacement for Guardiola..
