Celtic defender Stephen Welsh has put his backing behind John Kennedy to get the job at Parkhead long-term, as per his comments to BBC Radio Scotland.
Kennedy has shown great faith in Welsh since taking over from Neil Lennon, and has kept him in Celtic’s starting line-up.
The 21-year-old defender shone yesterday, as the Bhoys claimed a 1-1 draw against Rangers in the Old-Firm derby.
And Welsh says that he has been very impressed by the job Kennedy has done so far, and would like him to be given the role long-term.
“I think Kendo’s (John Kennedy) doing a great job at the moment. I’ve worked with him for four or five years and he makes it easy for me to go and play. He trusts me to go and play in these games so, yes, definitely I’d like him to get the job.”
Kennedy seems to be getting a lot of backing to get the Celtic job right now.
Kieran Tierney also spoke to Sky about wanting the caretaker manager to be given the job at the end of the season.
However, if Kennedy is to impress the Celtic board he is likely to need to pick up some very positive results between now and the end of the season.
The Bhoys’ performance against Rangers was at least a big improvement on some of their displays under Lennon this season, and they could consider themselves slightly unfortunate to have taken all three points from the game.
