Youri Tielemans is being linked with Liverpool as a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, and Arsenal fans will be disappointed.

That’s because Arsenal legend Ian Wright made it clear two years ago that he wanted the Gunners to sign Tielemans.

Back in May 2019, Wright named Tielemans among the players he would love Arsenal to sign.

The midfielder had just finished his loan spell at Leicester from AS Monaco, and his future at the time was still unclear.

Wright told The Mirror on May 21, 2019: “Then there is Youri Tielemans. He came over from Monaco. He’s on loan at Leicester City and he’s someone that – well there are loads of teams linked with him – but he’s someone that you’d want to have.”

Leicester signed Tielemans on a permanent contract in the summer of 2019, and two seasons later, he could be on his way to Liverpool.

As covered by HITC Sport, Het Nieuwsblad have reported that Liverpool want to sign the Belgium international as a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum.

The Netherlands international midfielder will leave Liverpool this summer, and the former Premier League champions do need a suitable replacement.

Leicester – who paid £40 million as transfer fee for the 24-year-old, according to The Guardian – could not finish in the top four yet again.

Liverpool will play in the Champions League next season and will be aiming to challenge for the Premier League title yet again.
