Liverpool should sign Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk and Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld, according to Ian Wright.

Ian Wright explained how important it will be for the Reds to bring some top class talent to Anfield in January, when speaking on BBC Radio Five Live last night, suggesting that it could be the difference between Philippe Coutinho staying or leaving.
Liverpool have been sensational going forward this season, scoring 67 goals in 27 outings in all competitions thus far, but their fragile back-line remains unconvincing to say the least, with the 20 Premier League goals that they have conceded being the worst tally out of all the teams inside the top seven of the division.
Jürgen Klopp must surely prioritise the signing of at least one top-class centre-back during the January window, if his side are to make a sustained challenge for major honours during the second half of the season.

At least that is what Ian Wright believes.
The 54-year-old told BBC Radio Five Live how bringing in a couple of world-class stars could very well convince Coutinho that Liverpool is where his future lies:

“It would be a shame for Coutinho to miss out on going to Barcelona. That’s why players will understand why he was under pressure to force a move. If he doesn’t get to go there, Liverpool have to do something [in January]. Liverpool have to be going big for Van Dijk and Alderweireld. That’s the kind of thing that will make Coutinho go, ‘OK, I get it now’. They’ve have an offensive line that can challenge. They need to do it in terms of the defensive line. If they’re going to do it, they need to go for those two guys.”
If the Reds do go on to sign the two players suggested by Wright, they really would be a frightening prospect.
Whether they could tempt both Southampton and Spurs into selling, though, remains to be seen.
