Wright is worried for Crystal Palace and does not see what has changed.

Former Crystal Palace striker Ian Wright says he is worried former side Crystal Palace may be unable to escape relegation.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live 606, a day after Palace’s embarrassing 4-0 home defeat to Sunderland, Wright said he is confused by the fact new manager Sam Allardyce has not been able to give the team a lift.

Palace have won only once in the six weeks since Allardyce took charge, and currently sit in 19th place.

Wright said: “Palace need to cut out silly mistakes, goalkeeping mistakes, and show more consistency, players have to step up more, I thought we’d see a shift with Sam, it’s not happened.

“It’s not the same Sam Allardyce at Palace who went into Sunderland. Sam’s gone into Palace and nothing’s really changed. It’s a worrying time, it’s not looking good, and they are running out of time.”

Allardyce took over at Palace after Alan Pardew was sacked in late December, and had to wait until last week for his first win.

Palace looked to have turned a corner with their midweek win over Bournemouth, but those hopes quickly unravelled as they conceded four first half goals against relegation rivals Sunderland on Saturday.

There is no further opportunity for Allardyce to spend, and while he has a remarkable record of never being relegated during his time as a Premier League manager, this test at Palace could be his toughest yet.

The Eagles have two league games remaining this month, away to Stoke City and at home to Middlesbrough, and with sides around them picking up points, it would require a leap of faith to believe they can enter March outside of the relegation zone.
