Crystal Palace were hammered 4-0 by Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

Crystal Palace’s hopes of avoiding relegation took a major hit on Saturday afternoon as they were hammered 4-0 at home by Sunderland – prompting a response from former Eagles winger Yannick Bolasie.

The Eagles were buoyed by a 2-0 midweek victory at Bournemouth, and fans were hoping to see a first home league win since the 3rd of December.

However, what they got was a frankly embarrassing display. Lamine Kone’s well taken opener put Sunderland in front, and midfielder Didier Ndong powered through the middle of the park before hammering home for the Black Cats.

Jermain Defoe then added two before half time, meaning that Palace went in at half-time 4-0 down – and that’s how it stayed as David Moyes’ men moved level on points with the Eagles.

Palace now sit 19th in the Premier League table, two points adrift of safety and in real trouble, with manager Sam Allardyce currently heading towards a first Premier League relegation of his career after losing so heavily to his former employers.

At half time of Saturday’s disastrous defeat, Yannick Bolasie – sold by Palace to Everton last summer – took to Twitter to share his bemusement at the scoreline, asking what on earth was going on at Selhurst Park.

Having made almost 150 appearances for Palace since joining from Bristol City in 2012, Bolasie remains a popular figure to many at Selhurst Park, and the currently-injured winger simply couldn’t believe the state his former club are in.

Palace fans, angry with the performance, responded to the former Eagles ace by suggesting that his departure is one factor in the club’s demise this season, urging him to come back to the club in the near future, with others slamming the club’s attitude despite being in the relegation zone.
