Gunners legend Ian Wright shared how he has always been fearful of Spurs’ emergence as a top quality outfit, when speaking on BBC Radio Five Live last night, highlighting the incredible impact that Mauricio Pochettino has had at the club, since his appointment as manager back in May 2014.

Tottenham were superb last night as they dismantled the current European champions Real Madrid in the Champions League, running out 3-1 winners, and they demonstrated that they can mix it with the very best on the continent.

The Lilywhites are now also considered to be genuine Premier League title contenders, and despite sitting eight points behind league leaders Manchester City, they are undoubtedly in with a chance of winning their first title since 1961.

Ian Wright, former Arsenal player, speaks during a Q&A at the Barclays office during the Barclays Asia Trophy 2015 Ticket Launch day 2 on May 13, 2015 in Singapore.

And Wright, who scored 185 goals for Spurs’ bitter rivals Arsenal, told BBC Radio Five Live how he has been fearful of Tottenham’s growing capabilities for some time now:

“I’ve always been afraid of the Tottenham emergence, because it’s been coming. Since Pochettino’s got there it’s been steadily rising and rising and the only thing you feel that is going to hold Tottenham back is, will chairman Daniel Levy pay the players the kind of money that is going to keep them there? That’s all it’s going to come down to.”

West Ham defender Tony Gale challenges Ian Wright of Arsenal during the FA Premiership match at Highbury on April 30, 1994 in London, England.

The Lilywhites currently sit one point clear of Wright’s former club Arsenal in the league table, and the balance of power in north London has undoubtedly already shifted.

And it was obviously something that the 53-year-old could see coming quite some time ago.
