Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has praised Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier, claiming that he looks like a different player since the arrival of Jose Mourinho at the club.
Aurier was once one of the most maligned players in Tottenham’s squad after a run of poor performances last season, but this term, fans have been full of praise for him.
Wright believes that the £23 million man’s transformation is down to the new manager holding him to higher standards and bringing in competition for his position.
“He’s got them on side, when you look at the team from goalkeeper, defence, Hojbjerg really helps that central pairing for a start, Reguillon, even when you watch Aurier the other day, he looks like a different sort of player,” Wright said.
“I think we’re going to see less mistakes from him because he knows that Mourinho will not tolerate it, and he’s got Doherty who can come in and maybe take his position.”

Something has certainly changed in Aurier this season, and Wright may be correct in saying that it’s down to Mourinho’s impact.
The Ivorian was all set to leave Tottenham this summer, with Spartak Moscow’s Sporting Director claiming to have agreed a fee for him at the end of last season.
Now he’s one of the first names on the Spurs teamsheet, starting each of the London club’s last three league games against Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City.
The fact that Aurier has been trusted to start three games against arguably three of the best teams in the division shows just how much he has improved from almost being sold in the summer.
Hopefully, the right-back can continue on this upwards trajectory.
