Chelsea are starting to turn a corner under Mauricio Pochettino.

It has largely been a frustrating season for the London club, but their recent set of results and performances has meant that the fans have something to cheer about.

On Wednesday night, Chelsea take on Brighton and Hove Albion knowing three points will keep up their hopes of finishing sixth in the Premier League table ahead of the weekend finale.

Whilst Cole Palmer has been the talk of the town, he isn’t the only one who has been stepping up and performing of late.

During Chelsea’s last two matches, their win over Nottingham Forest and their thumping win against West Ham United, the likes of Noni Madueke, Mykhailo Mudryk and Nicolas Jackson have all got on the scoresheet.

These are players who have struggled for large parts, they have had many questioning their talents, but now there is life to their game.

Ian Wright highlighted those players, as well as someone like Moises Caicedo, who everyone is ’starting to see what he is capable of’, as he told Premier League Productions (13/05/24 at 2:35 pm).

The 22-year-old can’t do much about his hefty price tag, it’s something that will always be mentioned, until he starts winning trophies at Stamford Bridge.

There have been times when Chelsea fans have been worried about whether he has the quality to take them where they want to go.

But with patience and coaching from the previously under-fire Pochettino, there now seems to be some encouragement and Wright hailed the players who are starting to transform.

Moises Caicedo and Nicolas Jackson improving at Chelsea

“You are starting to see with Caicedo, the problem he is always going to have is his price-tag is always going to supersede himself,” said Wright.

“Once he can focus on doing what he is doing, we are starting to see it, you are starting to see what he is capable of. The same with Nicolas Jackson, even though he can miss chances. I saw him against Arsenal and tear down the left with Saliba thinking he is another one that’s got something. Mudryk we know has something. Madueke.

“You are looking at a team that definitely has something and Pochettino is starting to get it right.”

European football at Chelsea

It’s not the Champions League, but if Chelsea can get any form of European football at the end of the season, then it’s a positive step forward.

Even just from an FFP standpoint, the club missing out on another European finish would harm the club from within because of how much they have spent over the last few years.

There is already talk of players leaving, including midfield regular Conor Gallagher who isn’t expected to be handed a new contract, as sources have told HITC.

Plus, just for Pochettino alone, if he finishes sixth, then it puts less pressure on him going into next season because of the positive mood that fans will be in and the belief that everyone is moving forward.
