Ian Wright has said on Match of the Day on BBC One that Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur will not compete with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City for the Premier League title this season.
The Arsenal legend believes that Tottenham do not have a midfield department that can build up play.
Wright made the comments when asked by MOTD presenter and former Tottenham striker Gary Lineker if Spurs could challenge defending Premier League champions City for the title.
Tottenham beat Brighton 1-0 away from home in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
It was a very defensive-minded performance from Spurs.
Ian Wright on Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League title chances
Wright said: “I don’t think you can question their front men. It’s that midfield and controlling the game to build it into the game rather than counter-attack is where they might come short.”

Title challenge from Spurs?
In our view, Tottenham Hotspur’s main objective this season has to be to finish in the Premier League top four.
Just like they did last season.
Yes, Spurs are doing well at the moment, but it is unlikely that they will be able to keep Manchester City in sights for long.
City have arguably the best squad in England, and in Erling Haaland, they have one of the most lethal strikers on the planet.
Tottenham simply do not have the strength in depth that City have.
