Jamie Carragher has expressed that he is ‘surprised’ Newcastle United transfer target Christian Pulisic didn’t leave Chelsea, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (06/09/22 at 7:40 pm).
Newcastle were big spenders, alongside Chelsea, during the 2022 summer transfer window, and one player Eddie Howe was keen to bring on board was Pulisic.
Even on transfer deadline day itself, it was reported that the Magpies were pushing for the USA international, but in the end, he stayed put.

With the 2022 World Cup around the corner, Pulisic needs regular minutes because he is a key member of the USA side.
He’s not getting that at Stamford Bridge, although, some would point to his lack of performances.
Either way, Newcastle weren’t the only team to take Pulisic on board, with Manchester United’s name also mentioned, as Carragher spoke about the versatile winger.
“I was surprised at the back of what he has done at Chelsea (that he didn’t leave),” said Carragher. “Manchester United are one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“It looked like they were trying to get him on loan and then buying him. I thought it would have given him the confidence and a lift.
“He’s not daft. He knows his future isn’t at Chelsea. When you look at the clubs that were supposedly interested in him, I thought it would have given him a lift (to leave and join another team).”

COULD TUCHEL SACKING CHANGE THE TIDE FOR PULISIC?
Chelsea are at it again because another manager, with a European Cup to his name, is out of the door.
It’s not Roman Abramovich pulling the trigger this time, but the new face in the boardroom, American businessman, Todd Boehly.
Tuchel is out of the door and Chelsea are now looking for a new manager, so could this be a new lease of life Pulisic needs?
It couldn’t come at a better time for the forward because of the World Cup in a few months, but if it doesn’t work for the former Dortmund man under his new coach, then it never really will work at Chelsea.
