Derek Ferguson has told Open Goal that he has heard that Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara wanted to leave Ibrox of late and move to France – and when a move did not materialise for the Finland maestro, he was left “disappointed”.
Kamara, 27, has been a regular for Rangers ever since moving to Ibrox from Dundee in January 2019. Over the last four years, the ex-Arsenal midfielder has clocked up a huge 182 outings for Rangers. He has 48 caps for Finland, too.
But in the summer, he was linked with a deadline-day move to OGC Nice. The Sun claimed that Aaron Ramsey’s Nice were considering a move on the final day of the summer window worth £10million. His deal at Rangers ends in 2025.
Kamara’s form has been up and down this season, perhaps improving slightly since the arrival of Michael Beale. But, with Giovanni van Bronckhorst in the dugout, he fell out of the starting XI. Ferguson says he heard he wanted to go.

“I was hearing that he was wanting to go, and he was disappointed that he never got his move, to France. Sometimes when there is a player like that, they don’t get their move, they’re never the same. I just feel that with a few of them.”

His form has been poor compared to previous seasons under Steven Gerrard. His disappointment at failing to earn a move to France, as Ferguson says, could be a reason for that. Beale, though, says he has been playing with an injury.
Whether interest remains from Nice or European clubs remains to be seen, ahead of the final days of the window. But, Kamara looks as though his time at Rangers is coming to an end and if a decent bid is tabled, he will surely be sold.
