Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has clarified Jose Mourinho’s situation after he was linked with Everton.
Rafa Benitez has been under a bit of pressure recently after a poor run of form with Everton, and while their win against Arsenal on Monday will have alleviated some of that pressure, it’s impossible to claim that he’s 100 per cent safe at this point.
However, according to Romano, even if Benitez does go, it’s hard to see Jose Mourinho replacing the Spaniard as Roma don’t have any plans in place to replace the Portuguese boss.
What’s been said about Mourinho?
Romano shared what he knows about Mourinho amid his links to Everton
“Jose Mourinho, I wanted to say that yesterday I received some questions about Everton. Some papers in Italy said that Everton, in case Benitez will be replaced, and Jose Mourinho was mentioned as a potential option for Everton. I want to clarify that at the moment Roma are absolutely not planning to replace Jose Mourinho or to fire Jose Mourinho,” Romano said.

Not the worst thing in the world
The fact that Roma aren’t likely to allow Mourinho to go to Everton may not be the worst thing in the world for the Toffees.
Mourinho is, of course, one of the most successful coaches in history, but his recent record has been nothing short of dire.
There’s a reason why some fans are against this idea.
He’s had issues at Manchester United and Tottenham, while he’s not doing the best of jobs at Roma.
To be honest, at this point in his career he’s very similar to Benitez, and if Everton are to replace their manager, they may want to go in an entirely different direction.
