Steven Gerrard says it is up to Rangers and Connor Goldson to agree on a new contract, but cannot express how much he wants the defender to stay at Ibrox, via the Daily Record.
Goldson has just eight-months left on his current deal with the Premiership title-holders, but is yet to agree new terms. The 28-year-old signed his existing contract upon his arrival from Brighton and Hove Albion in 2018 for £3m.
He became Gerrard’s sixth signing as Rangers manager following the Liverpool icon’s arrival in Glasgow earlier that summer. Goldson has since played 178 games for the Gers across all competitions, scoring 17 goals and five assists from centre-back.

Gerrard believes Goldson is operating at a supremely high level and hopes he agrees a new contract to stay at Rangers for a long time. The £27k-a-week enforcer also noted before the Ibrox outfit beat Brondby in midweek, via The Herald, that he wants to stay for years more.
Gerrard unfazed by Goldson contract situation at Rangers
Rangers began discussing a new contract with Goldson over six-months ago, but the slow progress does not faze Gerrard. Insisting he can only tell the club’s hierarchy how much he wants the defender to stay, and let them thrash out the specifics.
“I’m not concerned, I’m not confident. I’m not really over-thinking about it,” Gerrard said. “Connor knows what I think of him from a personal point of view and how much I want him to stay here. At the same time, we have to concentrate on the football, so it’s important Connor keeps playing the way he is. I thought he was magnificent again last night.
“He’s a valuable player for me and the club. Hopefully, we can get a solution in terms of getting him tied up. I can’t really go any further in terms of letting you know how much I want it to happen and how much I want him to stay.

“But at the end of the day I’m not Connor, and I don’t know what he wants. I’m not the club and I don’t do bank balances and numbers. So, I can only tell both parties how much I want it to happen, and then it’s down to other people to try and find a solution.”
Gerrard has entrusted Goldson with starting 16 of Rangers’ 18 fixtures in all competitions so far this season. The Wolves-born centre-back has only sat out the Glasgow outfit’s loss to Sparta Prague in the Europa League and win at St Johnstone in the Premiership so far.
