Alasdair Gold has told a Q&A on Football London’s website that Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga favours a move to Serie A champions AC Milan over Nottingham Forest this summer – but Milan are proving to be stubborn in talks.

Tanganga, 23, has failed to play a single minute for Antonio Conte’s side this season. He failed to make the squad for the opening game of the season against Southampton, and was an unused substitute against Chelsea and Wolves.

Reports this week emerged that Leeds, Everton, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Milan were all looking at Tanganga. Now, Gold has given an update. He says that Tottenham are open to a loan exit, with a £21million obligatory clause.

Gold says it is a straight shoot out between Forest and Milan. However, Milan do not want an obligatory clause – they want the option to sign Tanganga for £21million. But it is believed that Tanganga’s favoured move is Milan.

“AC Milan and Nottingham Forest are among the clubs who have been looking to take Tanganga off Tottenham’s hands and I understand the former England U21 defender’s number one choice is the Serie A giants,” Gold reports.

“Advanced talks have been held between Spurs and Milan, but the stumbling block is understood to have been that the Italian side are willing to include an option, but Tottenham want an obligation to purchase him for £21million.”

Gold: Tottenham defender Tanganga favours move to Milan over Forest

First and foremost, Tanganga needs to leave Tottenham. Now 23, he is no spring chicken and he has managed just 43 senior outings for Spurs. He has got to exit his boyhood club, and pursue his career – turning potential into quality.

Tanganga must be careful in choosing Milan. He needs to join a side where is going to get regular game time. At Forest, he will get that. Indeed, he would surely play regularly for Everton, too. But would he at Milan?

Milan have Fikayo Tomori, Pierre Kalulu and Simon Kjaer at centre-back. Davide Calabria at right-back. Tanganga might struggle to get into the starting XI regularly. But the lure of Champions League football will be tempting.
