Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has explained Jose Mourinho’s view on Tottenham’s potential move for Eder Militao this month.
Spurs have been linked with a move for the Brazilian defender for some time now, but it seems as though Mourinho isn’t the biggest fan of the idea.
It’s been claimed that Mourinho wants a centre-back, but he wants a pacy left-footer, and unfortunately, Militao doesn’t fit the billing there.
Castles has now claimed that Militao doesn’t fit the profile of player Mourinho is looking to sign this month.
“Mourinho, I understand, does not feel that Militao fits the profile of player that Tottenham need I.E, he doesn’t see him as the player who will come in and overhaul the defence, be a leader in the defence and take the team onto a different level, so then, were that deal to be done by the club I think it would be a compromise rather than an ideal scenario to happen. Therefore, I think you can regard this as pretty unlikely to happen,” Castles said.
It seems as though Militao won’t be coming to Tottenham this month.
Unfortunately for Spurs, left-footed defensive leaders are hard to come by, and even if you do come across one, you’re not going to get them for cheap.
Militao isn’t the player that Mourinho wants, and as Castles says, it’s a signing that is unlikely to happen.
It remains to be seen whether or not Spurs get the centre-back that they’re reportedly in the market for.
